Honorary Commander Program

The 132d Wing, Iowa Air National Guard based in Des Moines is proud to announce the start of their Honorary Commander Program. This voluntary program pairs Air National Guard commanders with local community and business leaders for a two-year term to build lasting relationships, enhance collaboration and increase public awareness of the 132d Wing and the Iowa Air National Guard’s mission. The program provides frequent opportunities to visit Des Moines Air National Guard Base and learn about the mission. Honorary Commanders will be invited to attend socials, changes of command, promotions, retirements, and base wide events.

The 132d Wing is one of two Air National Guard wings in the state of Iowa. As an Air Force entity owned by the Iowa Governor, the 132d Wing trains, deploys, executes and sustains operations in missions supporting our nation, state, and community. Some of the mission sets supported by the 132d Wing are a 24/7 MQ-9 combat line, intelligence, Air Force targeting, cyber operations, logistics, communications, and medical. The 132d Wing is composed of 990 personnel, about 1/3 of which are full-time members. The rest are considered traditional “drill-status guardsmen” who serve in a part-time capacity. These drill-status guardsmen also have jobs in the civilian sector and serve as true citizen-airmen.
